Rob Waugh presents his documentary on the loss of the glaciers of the Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, within the Royal Scottish Geographical Society's Inspiring People Talks.
Rob Waugh is coming to The University of Edinburgh on Thursday 4 March, as part of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society's Inspiring People talk series. He'll be presenting his new documentary on the loss of the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains range, which sits on the border between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
If you're not familiar with the Rwenzoris, they're often called the 'Mountains of the Moon', and they're one of the few places in Africa with glaciers. Waugh's film focuses on how those glaciers are vanishing, so it's a look at a specific, disappearing landscape rather than a general talk on climate change. He'll be showing the documentary and talking through the story behind it, so you'll get to see the footage first-hand.
The talk is hosted by the Royal Scottish Geographical Society, whose Inspiring People series brings speakers to the university to share their work. The venue itself is The University of Edinburgh, founded in 1582, which makes it the sixth-oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of Scotland's ancient universities, with many of its buildings still standing in the historic Old Town. It's a fitting spot for a talk that looks at a place so far from home.
