Late-night screening of Jim Henson's 1986 musical fantasy film 'Labyrinth', starring Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie, at the Planetarium.
Dynamic Earth is screening Jim Henson's Labyrinth in its planetarium on Friday 23 October, starting at 8pm. It's part of their Planetarium Lates, so it's a late-night showing rather than a daytime one.
For those who haven't seen it, Labyrinth is a 1986 musical fantasy film starring Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie. The story follows a girl named Sarah who ventures into a fantastical world of goblins and mythical creatures to find her missing brother. To get him back, she has to pass through the Labyrinth's trials and tests before midnight, or he stays with the Goblin King. It's a Jim Henson production, so the whole thing is built around puppets and practical effects rather than CGI, and Bowie provides the music as well as playing the Goblin King himself.
The screening is framed as a way to celebrate the spooky season, and watching it inside a planetarium puts it in a different light from a standard cinema run. The film's world is full of strange creatures and shifting landscapes, and the planetarium setting fits that kind of fantasy well.
