Preview screening of Clio Barnard's film about five childhood friends on a Birmingham estate, part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival's Focus on Film programme.
I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning is coming to Filmhouse on Tuesday 3 November, a preview screening that runs for 1 hour and 49 minutes. It's directed by Clio Barnard, who's well-known for her work in British cinema, and it's adapted from Keiran Goddard's award-winning novel. The cast features Anthony Boyle, Lola Petticrew and Joe Cole.
The story follows five childhood friends — Patrick, Shiv, Rian, Oli and Conor — who grew up together on a Birmingham estate. It interweaves their lives as they reach their thirties, when the dreams that once seemed within reach start to give way to the stark realities of the UK housing crisis, and the group struggles to find its way. It's a film about friendship and the gap between what you're promised and what you actually get, set against a backdrop that'll feel familiar to anyone who's spent time in a city estate.
There are a few things to keep in mind before you book. It's rated 15+ for strong language and drug use, so it's not one for the younger ones. The screening is part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival's Focus on Film programme, which puts it alongside other cinema chosen for the festival.
