Martin Stephenson & The Daintees play The Queen's Hall with music from their 1988 album 'Gladsome, Humour & Blue' and other classics.
Martin Stephenson & The Daintees play The Queen's Hall on Saturday 6 March 2027, as part of their Gladsome, Humour & Blue tour. The set draws on that 1988 album, but they'll be playing classics and fan favourites alongside it, so it's not just a one-record night.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, the band comes from the North East of England and built their sound on a broad mix: rockabilly, show tunes, rootsy pop, straight-ahead rock and punk. Their debut single, 'Roll On Summertime', came out in 1982 on Kitchenware Records — the same label that was home to Prefab Sprout, The Kane Gang and Hurrah! — and their first album, Boat To Bolivia, became one of the essential releases of 1986 after they appeared on Channel 4's The Tube and BBC2's Whistle Test.
Gladsome, Humour & Blue followed in 1988 and gave us the singles 'There Comes A Time' and 'Wholly Humble Heart'. The band put out four critically acclaimed Kitchenware albums before splitting in 1992, then came back in 2008 with Western Eagle, their first studio album in fifteen years, followed by California Star in 2012. This tour looks back at that second record, but it's a full set that reaches across their career.
