Lene Lovich, the post-punk pop singer behind 'Lucky Number', plays Bannermans Bar with her full band on her UK tour of 2026.
Lene Lovich plays Bannermans Bar on Thursday 5 November, as part of her UK 2026 tour. She'll be performing with her full band, and the Edinburgh date follows a run of headline sets and support slots for the B-52's and DEVO in the US.
If you're not familiar with her, Lovich is a Detroit-born post-punk pop singer who topped the UK charts with 'Lucky Number' in 1979. She's often called the 'goth punk empress' and earned the nickname 'Queen of Quirk' for a sound that's hard to pin down. Her high-pitched, staccato vocals have drawn comparisons to Kate Bush on acid and the New Wave Maria Callas, and hits like 'Lucky Number', 'Say When', 'Bird Song' and 'New Toy' are still club and radio fixtures across Europe, Japan, Australia and the USA. She's influenced artists as diverse as Nina Hagen, Boy George, Madonna and the Dresden Dolls.
She's spent much of the last few decades out of the limelight. After her 1982 album No Man's Land, she stepped back following disagreements with her record company over her refusal to compromise her visual style for the then-emerging MTV; she's recorded only two albums in the thirty years since. This tour is one of the few times she's been out in the open, so it's a rare chance to see her live with a full band behind her.
