Magic Circle member Kevin Quantum, a magician and physicist, brings his show of impossible illusions and levitations that explore the space where science and magic meet.
Kevin Quantum brings Anti-Gravity: Thrilling & Beautiful Magic to Assembly Roxy on Saturday 14 November, his only Edinburgh date of the season. It's a one-man show that sits somewhere between a magic act and a physics demonstration, and it's recommended for ages eight and over.
Quantum — born Kevin McMahon — is a Magic Circle member who's spent half his adult life studying physics and the other half studying magic. He describes himself as a magician-scientist adventurer, and the show follows that line: impossible illusions and levitations that explore the space where science and magic meet. It's not just about the tricks, but the thinking behind them, and it comes after award-winning, sell-out runs around the world.
One of the set's standout numbers is a reimagined Newton's Cradle, performed as a flaming cannonball illusion. The rest of the show leans on the same kind of scale — the big, visual stunts rather than close-up card tricks. The critics have been pretty clear about the vibe: BroadwayBaby called them 'epic stunts', Stages noted 'all the hallmarks of Penn & Teller', and The Advertiser said the show 'will leave you picking your jaws off the floor'. That Penn & Teller connection isn't just a comparison, either — Quantum was tutored by them, and you can hear their influence in the way he blends the spectacle with a bit of a wink.
