Debut gig of the hard-bop and post-bop quartet The Theo Robinson Quartet, playing jazz standards at The Jazz Bar.
The Theo Robinson Quartet play The Jazz Bar on Friday 23 October, their debut at the venue. It's part of the bar's Friday night jazz programme, and this particular set is billed as an intimate, listening show. The music is straight-ahead jazz, and the quartet describes their sound as being inspired by hard-bop and post-bop — the high-energy, swinging style that defined the 1950s and 60s. The set runs through a selection of jazz standards by the composers they admire most, including John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter and Victor Feldman.
The quartet is led by saxophonist Theo Robinson, with pianist Alfie Primrose, bassist Luca Colagiacomo and drummer Hayden Moir. It's a brand-new group, and this is their first appearance at The Jazz Bar, so you'll be catching them right at the start. The set is presented by The Jazz Bar Edinburgh CIC as part of the venue's regular Friday night jazz offering.
