One-off neosoul, jazz and singer-songwriter night by Zain Cruickshank with Mark Sandford and Ethan James, plus three flugelhorns on stage.
Zain Cruickshank plays The Jazz Bar on Sunday 1 November, with the set running from 8pm to 10pm. It's a one-off night, and the billing makes it clear why: for this show only, three flugelhorns join the band on stage, adding a brass section to the usual line-up.
Cruickshank is a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter whose music draws on jazz and folk, and whose sound stretches across neosoul, jazz and pop. He describes his songs as exploring themes of love, loss, nature and family. On this date, he's joined by long-time collaborators Mark Sandford on bass and Ethan James on drums — a trio that sold out the Pianodrome earlier this year. The three flugelhorns make this a single-night arrangement, with the brass section joining the core band for one show of lilting melodies and ambitious songwriting.
