Independent film screening of the documentary 'Re-Rooting: Pilgrimage, Community & Creation' with a Q&A session with director Tze-Hung Seeto and co-pilgrim Joel Chaney.
Portobello Baptist Church is hosting a screening of the documentary Re-Rooting: Pilgrimage, Community & Creation on Tuesday 20 October, with the director there to talk about it afterwards. The film follows two friends, Joel Chaney and Tze-Hung Seeto, on a 1,000-mile cycle journey from Holy Island in England up to Orkney, as they explore the Christian relationship with creation and the ancient tradition of pilgrimage.
Along the way, they trace old and new pilgrim routes and meet people whose faith has changed how they live—from crofters in the Hebrides to organic farmers in the Orkney isles. The film asks how pilgrimage can help heal the dualism between our spiritual and material lives, and it's presented in partnership with CREATIVenergie, the charitable company Seeto co-founded with Chaney to unlock sustainable energy for abundant life, and with Wildris Media. This screening is part of a tour across the UK and overseas.
Behind the camera is Tze-Hung Seeto, a documentary photographer and filmmaker who's been working around the world since 2008, focusing on world Christianity, creation care and the experience of war and conflict. He'll be there in person for a Q&A session after the film, joined by his co-pilgrim Joel Chaney, so you can ask them about the journey and the people they met.
