UK & Ireland tour of the musical Grease, directed by Nikolai Foster and choreographed by Arlene Phillips, with Debbie McGee as Miss Lynch.
Grease comes to the Edinburgh Playhouse from Monday 20 to Saturday 25 September 2027, as part of a UK and Ireland tour. It's the one we all know: leather-jacketed greaser Danny and girl-next-door Sandy are reunited when she transfers to Rydell High for her senior year, with Miss Lynch keeping the students in line. The score is built around the hits you've heard a thousand times — 'Summer Nights', 'Greased Lightnin'', 'Hopelessly Devoted to You' and 'You're the One That I Want'.
This production is directed by Nikolai Foster, the Artistic Director of Curve, and choreographed by Arlene Phillips. Debbie McGee takes on the role of Miss Lynch. They've described this version as grittier and more glamorous than ever, so it's not just a carbon copy of the one you might have seen before.
For a bit of context, Grease first premiered on Broadway in 1972, where it earned seven Tony nominations. Its reputation was sealed six years later by the film adaptation starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, which is where most of us first met Danny and Sandy. This tour brings that same story to the Playhouse for a short run, with the Broadway origins and the film legacy both sitting behind it.

It runs about two hours and 30 minutes with an interval, and it's recommended for ages 7 and over, so it works as a family outing as much as a night out with friends. The run is just under a week — Monday 20 to Saturday 25 September — so if you're planning to go, you'll want to pick your date early.
