Stage musical adaptation of the 1985 film, with Roger Bart as Doc Brown and Axel Duffy as Marty McFly, at the Edinburgh Playhouse.
Back to the Future The Musical opens at the Edinburgh Playhouse on Wednesday 2 December, with the run continuing through to Saturday 2 January. It's a stage adaptation of the 1985 film, brought to the theatre by its original creators, Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis. Gale wrote the book and Tony Award winner John Rando directed it.
The story follows teenager Marty McFly, who's sent back to 1955 in a time machine built by the eccentric scientist Doc Brown. From there, he has to race against time to fix the present and find his way home, while a show-stopping DeLorean carries the audience between eras. The original film grossed over $381 million worldwide and spawned two sequels in 1989 and 1990.
On the music side, original songs and lyrics come from multi-Grammy winners Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard, and the score works alongside movie hits like 'The Power of Love', 'Johnny B. Goode', 'Earth Angel' and 'Back in Time'. The production has picked up Best New Musical at the Olivier Awards, the WhatsOnStage Awards and the Broadway World Awards.
