Bill Bailey returns to the stage with 'Vaudevillean', a show billed as a celebration of comedy, songs and multifarious skills that draws on the tradition of vaudeville.
Bill Bailey is playing the Edinburgh Playhouse on Wednesday 25 November, with Vaudevillean — a show that does exactly what the title suggests. It's a celebration of the old-school variety tradition, the kind of prime-time entertainment that held the room before streaming, television, cinema and even radio took over.
Bailey plays the room as a multi-instrumentalist, a multi-lingual performer and a purveyor of humour and musical prowess, weaving the music right into the stand-up. He's known for that particular mix of the gloriously daft and the brilliantly performed, so expect the musical side to be as much a part of the night as the comedy. The bill describes him as a comedy legend, king of the Strictly dance floor and a national treasure as British as warm beer and Doctor Who.
By the time it reaches Edinburgh, Vaudevillean will have been on the road for a while. It debuted to success in New Zealand in the autumn of 2026, then played a seven-week residency in the West End. The Playhouse date is part of his 2026 UK arena tour, so it's one of the stops on a run that's already seen a good bit of the country. If you've seen his previous work, this is the one where the music takes centre stage alongside the jokes.
