Six-week evening dressmaking course for confident beginners and improvers, taught by Michela Fulgoni at Artisan Stitch.
Artisan Stitch is running a six-week evening dressmaking course starting Tuesday 10 November, held at their studio in the Edinburgh Palette on London Road. It's aimed at confident beginners and improvers rather than absolute beginners, so it's more for someone who knows their way around a sewing machine and wants to move on to making actual clothes.
The focus is on garment fitting, accuracy and technique, and you'll be working on your own chosen project throughout the six weeks. The tutor is Michela Fulgoni, a former womenswear designer and pattern cutter who spent seven years working for fashion houses in Italy and Switzerland before honing her skills in a sustainable couture atelier in London. She launched her own label, Beffi Studio, in 2019 and still designs and produces garments here in Scotland using upcycling and zero-waste techniques. She started teaching in 2024 and keeps her groups small — up to five students — so she can tailor the tuition to whatever you're making.
Because it's a small group, you'll get plenty of one-on-one attention rather than just following along with a demonstration. If you're still unfamiliar with sewing machines, commercial patterns and basic seams, though, they suggest taking a beginners class first.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Edinburgh and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.
