Six-week beginner sewing course with Jen Skedd of Artisan Stitch, spreading the studio's signature programme over weekly Thursday sessions.
Artisan Stitch is running its Beginners Sewing Course XL on Thursday nights this autumn, from 1 October to 5 November. It's a six-week programme that takes you from complete beginner to confident sewist, with twelve hours of teaching spread across the six sessions. The course runs at their studio in St Margaret's House, 151 London Road, Edinburgh EH7 6AE.
It's the studio's signature course, and it's built around the same approach as their shorter two-day and three-day immersives, but stretched out over six relaxed weekly sessions. That slower pace adds about 50% more sewing time and two extra projects to the mix, so you're not rushing through the basics. The course is recommended by Queen Margaret University as preparation for Home Economics, and every booking includes access to the Artisan Stitch Learning Hub, which holds guides, video tutorials and ongoing email support for when you're working on your own.
Artisan Stitch was founded in 2015 by lifelong sewist Jen Skedd, who teaches the course. She frames her lessons around the mistakes she's made since learning to sew as a child, so the teaching comes from a place of knowing exactly where things tend to go wrong. The studio has won several 'Best Sewing Tuition Provider' awards and a Certificate of Excellence.
