Six-week beginner sewing course at Artisan Stitch, from never having touched a machine to becoming a confident sewist.
Artisan Stitch is running its Beginners Sewing Course XL in Edinburgh, a six-week programme that starts on Thursday 1 October and runs through to Thursday 5 November. It's their signature course, one they've been refining for over a decade and have taught to thousands of complete beginners. They describe it as the one that's launched more sewing journeys than any other at the studio.
There are two versions of the course: a relaxed six-week stretch and an intensive two-day one. The longer version adds two projects and about 50% more sewing time, along with more techniques and a fair bit more practice. The idea is to take you from never having touched a machine to becoming a confident, independent sewist, one skill at a time, rather than a rushed taster or a class where you just copy someone else's project. If you're starting from zero, the extra time and the extra projects make a real difference in how it sticks.
Artisan Stitch bills itself as Scotland's leading sewing school, and they've got the awards to back it up: multiple 'Best Sewing Tuition Provider' awards and a Certificate of Excellence. Queen Margaret University even recommends the course as preparation for Home Economics. Every booking includes access to the studio's Learning Hub, which has guides, video tutorials and email support to lean on after the sessions end. Many people move on from here to their Clothing Skills, Soft Furnishings or Textile Art workshops.
