A madcap hour of drag, burlesque, music, comedy and medical mayhem presented by Scotland's silliest surgeon, Dr Bonk, at the Edinburgh Horror Festival.
Doctor Bonk brings his Macarbaret to The Banshee Labyrinth on Saturday 17 October, as part of the Edinburgh Horror Festival. It's a madcap hour of drag, burlesque, music, comedy and medical mayhem, fronted by the not-so-good doctor himself alongside an assortment of spooky performers and an unseen ghostly narrator.
Bonk is billed as Scotland's silliest surgeon, and the Macarbaret is his hit show. It's been back at the festival before, with sold-out runs at the 2022, 2023 and 2024 editions. The whole thing was created by the critically acclaimed comedian Eliott Simpson, and it's built around the doctor leading the night with a rotating cast of horror-themed acts. Reviewers have called it 'offbeat, wacky and unpredictable', 'the most hi-concept MC'ing you'll ever see', 'accessible and absurd' and 'weird as f***k'.
One of the things that sets it apart is that the show runs monthly, and they bring in a whole new cast of horrors each time, so it's billed as being different every month. If you've seen it before, you're seeing a different line-up this time around. The doctor stays the same, but the performers around him change.
