David Leon fronts the night as Captain Fabulous with new pop, rock, punk and funk songs, a drag performer host and a platform for Edinburgh's underground DIY music scene, over 18s only.
David Leon brings his ICE HOT DISCO to The Banshee Labyrinth on Sunday 8 November, with doors opening at 19:00. He fronts the night as Captain Fabulous, a character he describes as being forged from a rich history of LGBTQ+ artists — and a sharp departure from his previous satirical post-punk villain, The Kleptocrat.
This is the third incarnation of the show, built around brand-new songs that Leon describes as effervescent maelstroms of pop, rock, punk and funk, with queer power surging through every beat. The format has a new twist this time around: a drag performer hosts the evening and opens with a performance. The night is billed as a platform for the best of Edinburgh's underground DIY music scene, and it's strictly for over-18s.
Leon isn't doing this solo. He's backed by a full band: Baptie on guitar, Ross Mackenzie on drums, Will Brookes on bass, and John Gair on synthesisers. Between the four of them, they'll be running through that new material across pop, rock, punk and funk, with the drag host keeping things moving between the sets. The whole thing is set up as a showcase for the city's DIY music scene, so it's as much about the local underground as it is about Leon's new character.
