Ten-week course for beginners and those with some experience on the skills behind cinematic lightsaber sequences, using a performance lightsaber.
CineSaber is running a ten-week course on cinematic combat at The Crags Centre in Edinburgh South, starting Wednesday 13 January 2027. It's a deep dive into the skills that go into those choreographed lightsaber sequences you see on screen, and it runs every Wednesday from 13 January through to 17 March.
The course breaks the whole thing down into its parts: saber handling and control, spins and flow, footwork and movement, attacks and blocks, combinations and choreography, and partner work. It's pitched at complete beginners as well as people who already have some experience, and it runs in a welcoming, creative environment. A single ticket covers the full ten weeks, and the sessions include the use of a performance lightsaber provided for the class rather than to take home; if you'd rather bring your own, you'll need to get approval in advance. It's an independent creative and performance activity, and it isn't affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Disney, Lucasfilm Ltd or the Star Wars franchise.
The venue, The Crags Centre at 10 Bowmont Place (EH8 9RY), has its own bit of local history. It re-opened in 2011 thanks to a group of basketball volunteers and has grown into a sustainable social enterprise run on a model that gives regular customers an active role in running the spaces. That's where the course takes place, in the Dance Studio.
