Storyteller Graeme Johncock talks about his new book 'Scotland's People: On the Trail of Incredible Stories' at Waterstones.
Graeme Johncock is coming to Waterstones Edinburgh West End on Thursday 19 November, where he'll be talking about his new book, Scotland's People: On the Trail of Incredible Stories. It's a storytelling evening that takes Scotland's best-known figures out of the history books and puts them back into the landscape they actually walked.
The talk follows the trail of the country's most famous names, and it doesn't shy away from the big ones. He'll be talking about Robert the Bruce fighting to reclaim Scotland's freedom, and the steps Mary Queen of Scots took on her way towards a tragic end. It's that kind of range — from the battlefields to the royal courts — that the book pulls together, and the evening draws on those same stories.
Johncock describes himself as a storyteller, and that's exactly how the night is set up: he'll be speaking to the audience rather than just reading from the page. The whole thing is built around Scotland's People, so if you've got an interest in the people and places of Scotland's past, it's a good place to start. It's a chance to hear those well-known figures told as stories rather than as dates and facts.
