Concert by the Swiss folk metal band Eluveitie at The Oriental Theater.
Eluveitie are playing The Oriental Theater in Denver on Saturday, March 13, 2027, starting at 8 PM. They're Swiss pioneers of what they call the 'New Wave Of Folk Metal,' a style mastermind Chrigel Glanzmann forged in 2002 by fusing Gothenburg-style melodic death metal with ancient folk melodies and themes. It's a sound that puts the heavy weight of death metal right up against traditional folk, and they've spent the last two decades leaning into that contrast.
The project started in the studio: the first self-financed EP, Vên, was recorded in the spring of 2003 and sold out completely. From there, they became a live act, playing their first concert on February 5, 2004, in Winterthur, Switzerland, and releasing their debut album Spirit in 2006. They signed to Nuclear Blast Records and followed with Slania in 2008, then took a turn with the all-acoustic folk album Evocation I: The Arcane Dominion in 2009—the first to feature hurdy-gurdy player Anna Murphy on vocals. After that came the heavier Everything Remains... As It Never Was in 2010, and Helvetios in 2012, which combined all those previous elements into one record.

They've toured widely over the years, sharing stages with acts like Amon Amarth, Finntroll, and KorpiKlaani, and this Denver date is part of that same touring tradition. If you're not familiar with the sound, it's exactly what the name suggests: melodic death metal mixed with folk melodies and themes, with the hurdy-gurdy and other traditional elements running alongside the heavier side of the band. The show is at The Oriental Theater on Saturday, March 13, 2027, at 8 PM.
