Monthly 90-minute art workshop for homeschool students in grades 1-8, combining hands-on making in the Studio with gallery exploration.
Columbus Museum of Art is holding its Homeschool Workshops on Wednesday, November 4, as part of a series that runs the first Wednesday of each month from September through May. Each session is 90 minutes long and is built for homeschool students in grades 1-8.
The format splits the time between two different ways of looking at art. Half the session is spent in the Studio, where students get their hands dirty making something themselves. The other half is spent in the galleries, where they explore the museum's collection through inquiry-based learning—basically, looking at art and asking questions rather than just listening to a lecture. Every month brings a new topic, each one inspired by the museum's studio prompts, so if you come back more than once, you'll be working with different ideas each time.
One thing that makes these a bit easier for parents is the setup. Caregivers are encouraged to drop their students off in the Studio and then hang out in the adjacent studio space to connect with other parents, or wander through the galleries and the café on their own. It's a built-in break while the kids are occupied.

Registration is $25 per student per workshop for nonmembers and $18 for members. Those fees cover museum admission for both the student and one accompanying adult. Since these happen the first Wednesday of every month from September through May, you can drop in for a single session or make it a regular part of your school year.
