Free family day at the Museum of Zoology with a Fens-themed trail and specimen handling around the galleries.
The Museum of Zoology is hosting its Winter Wildlife Family Day on Saturday 28 November, from 10:00 to 16:30. This year's day focuses on the ecology of The Fens, with a Fens-themed trail and specimen handling around the galleries. It's a free event, and children under 11 need to be accompanied by an adult.
For those who haven't spent much time there, the museum is one of Cambridge's bigger attractions. The galleries cover a huge range of animal life, from marsupials to monkeys, mammoths to manatees, and stories of extinction, survival, evolution and exploration. The most famous sight is the fin whale that hangs above the shop in the Whale Hall, so it's a good spot to bring kids who like big animals. The family day works around that, with the trail and the specimen handling taking you through the galleries rather than keeping you in one room.

Beyond the family day, the museum runs a blog, an online shop called 'Curating Cambridge', school visits and guided tours, so there's plenty more to it than just the open galleries. If you're heading in for the day, it's on the New Museums Site — enter through the Pembroke Arch on Downing Street, or use the step-free entrance via the Whale Hall. There's no visitor parking on site, with the Grand Arcade car park being the nearest option. Entry is free, and it runs from 10:00 to 16:30 on Saturday 28 November.
