Guided tour of the Museum of Zoology's collections, from Darwin's beetles to the fin whale and dodo skeletons.
From Darwin to Dodos is a guided tour of the Museum of Zoology on Friday 13 November, running from 15:00 to 15:45. It's a walk through the museum's collections that stops to pick apart the stories they hold, rather than just glancing at them from a distance.
Three specific pieces lead the way. There are the beetles Charles Darwin collected, the museum's fin whale skeleton, and its dodo skeleton. Along the route, the tour asks why a fin whale skeleton ended up in Cambridge, what the dodo reveals, and what Darwin actually brought back from the Voyage of the Beagle. It then ties those specimens to the ideas on evolution he developed from them.
The tour is suitable for ages 12 and over, so it's one you can bring a teenager along to. Booking ahead via Eventbrite is required, so you'll need to secure your spot before you turn up on the day.
