Free family trail around the Botanic Garden with seven boards on the folklore and mythology of common British trees.
The Magpies' Magic Forest opens at the University of Cambridge Botanic Garden on Friday 23 October, and it runs right through to 2 November. It's a free guided trail around the Garden, built on the idea that old magic still lives in trees and that magpies are the only ones who know where to find it.
Once you've got your trail booklet from the ticket office, you follow a path through the Garden and stop at seven boards, each one devoted to a common British tree. Each board tells you about the folklore and mythology surrounding that tree, and the magical properties that have been lost to time. At every stop, you collect a stamp of that tree's magical item, and when you've gathered all seven, you head back to a ticket office to claim the magpies' golden stamp of 'mischief'.
