Stage show by Professor Alice Roberts that brings to life four billion years of evolution, from the first spark of life to the rise of human civilisations.
Professor Alice Roberts brings her new stage show, From Cell to Civilisation, to the Cambridge Corn Exchange on Saturday 21 November. It's part of a UK tour visiting 28 venues between 3 November 2026 and 2 March 2027, and the Cambridge date is already sold out.
Roberts is an anthropologist, author and broadcaster who's been delving into Britain's past and making archaeology programmes for nearly twenty years. She describes From Cell to Civilisation as a new stage show blending archaeology, evolutionary biology and genetics with theatrical sound, light and imagination to bring the science to life. It traces our origins back not just to the dawn of our own species but to the origin of life on the planet: four billion years of evolution in one evening, following the first spark of life around 3.8 billion years ago and the journey of our ancestors from Africa through Asia, around the Indian coastline, to Australia, Europe and Siberia and finally the Americas, meeting other human species along the way and taking in the sophistication of some of the earliest civilisations. The show has already toured Australia and Canada before arriving here.
