Jools Holland and his 19-piece Rhythm & Blues Orchestra play the Cambridge Corn Exchange, with special guest Roachford, on his UK tour.
Jools Holland and His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra play the Cambridge Corn Exchange on Sunday 1 November, with Roachford as special guest. It's one date in a 31-night UK tour, so the Cambridge stop is part of a fairly wide run across the country.
Most of us know Jools from Later... with Jools Holland, which he's hosted on BBC2 since 1992, but the orchestra is his own thing. He started out as a child prodigy, playing piano by ear by the age of eight and working the pubs of South East London and the East End docks in his early teens. At fifteen he met Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford, who went on to form Squeeze, and was later joined by drummer Gilson Lavis, who still plays with him. In 1987 he put together The Jools Holland Big Band, which grew into the 19-piece Rhythm & Blues Orchestra he tours with now.
Since signing to Warner Music in 1996, he's released the Jools Holland and Friends series, which has seen him share the stage with Sting, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Bono, Joe Strummer, Norah Jones and Peter Gabriel. He was awarded an OBE in June 2003. The Cambridge show will feature the full orchestra, with Roachford opening the night.
