Political drama by Robert Khan and Tom Salinsky about the Labour giants Roy Jenkins, Denis Healey and Tony Crosland clashing over British socialism.
The Gang of Three comes to the Cambridge Arts Theatre from Tuesday 3 to Saturday 7 November, a political drama by Robert Khan and Tom Salinsky. It's set behind the closed doors of Westminster during an economic crisis and follows three Labour giants — Roy Jenkins, Denis Healey and Tony Crosland — as they clash over the soul of British socialism. The play lets their towering intellects, fierce rivalries and the private tensions behind public power take centre stage.
The writers say they set out to write about the 1970s and 1980s, but by the time they finished they realised they had written about now: a Labour government, economic shocks, falling poll ratings and a Cabinet of ambitious people who can't agree on anything. It's a production that follows a sold-out run at the King's Head Theatre in London and is now on a national tour, with 1970s music by The Who and Sparks. The Financial Times called it a 'terrific play' and Mark Lawson described it as 'superb' in The Guardian.
