Comedy sketch show by The Cambridge Footlights that takes the mickey out of pantomime, with audience interaction and monologues.
The Cambridge Footlights are back at the ADC Theatre on Wednesday 28 November with Behind You!, a comedy sketch show that takes the mickey out of all things panto. It's a bit of a warm-up for the CUADC/Footlights Pantomime, Cinderella, so if you're into the whole panto thing, this is a good way to get in the mood before the main event.
The show drags fairytale nonsense into the most boring corners of real life, and it doesn't stop there. It's packed with audience interaction, awkward fourth-wall breaks, and monologues that lean into everything people love about pantomimeāthe larger-than-life characters and the audience participationāand then pushes it to be a bit naughtier, weirder, and sillier. The happy endings go slightly wrong, too. It's billed as a playful celebration of panto magic, and it's designed to build excitement for Cinderella.
It's playing at the ADC Theatre on Park Street, which is Britain's oldest university playhouse. It's run almost entirely by students with no faculty involvement, and plays have been put on there since 1855, when the Cambridge University Amateur Dramatic Club was founded in the back room of the Hoop Innāalmost exactly where the theatre stands today. So, when you're sitting there, you're in a place that's been doing this for over 170 years.
