An immersive, multi-sensory, intense, and profoundly emotional climate-chaos wake-up call, reimagined for the Brighton Festival 2026.
Brighton Festival 2026 features an installation at the Brighton Dome titled KlangHaus: Darkroom. This 20-minute immersive experience focuses on the theme of climate change, having been originally developed for the COP26 summit in Glasgow. During that initial project, the creative team collaborated with scientists from the Tyndall Centre at the University of East Anglia to shape the narrative. The installation is designed to place the audience in complete darkness, aiming to evoke a sense of individual isolation in the context of a climate breakdown. The work is a collaboration between the interdisciplinary collective KlangHaus, which includes sound artists The Neutrinos—Karen Reilly, Jon Baker, Mark Howe, and Jeron Gundersen—and visual artist and filmmaker Sal Pittman.

The setup for this installation is specific regarding the environment. It takes place in Anita’s Room at the Brighton Dome, and due to the nature of the experience, each session is limited to a maximum of six people at a time. Participants remain standing throughout the duration of the piece, as there are no seats provided. The work is intended for an adult audience, with an age restriction of 18 and over. The creative approach focuses on sensory narratives, a style the collective has previously explored in their work at the Edinburgh Festival and the Royal Festival Hall in London.
If you are planning to attend, the event runs from 2 May to 23 May 2026. The schedule varies depending on the day. On Saturdays 2, 9, 16, and 23 May, as well as Fridays 8, 15, and 22 May, sessions are held at 12:00, 13:00, and 14:00.
