A family-friendly puppet show by Lollihop Puppet Theatre exploring science and belief, with drop-in puppet-making workshops.
Lollihop Puppet Theatre are bringing Unicorns Are Real! to Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum, on Saturday 17 October. It's a family-friendly puppet show that takes one simple question — Are unicorns real? — and spends the run working its way through the answers. The theatre company pairs factual, scientific theories with fantastical hypotheses, and along the way they bring puppets, fossils and magical potions to life. It's the kind of thing that works as well for the kids as it does for the adults who enjoy a bit of a debate between the two.
If you're taking the little ones, there's a bit more to it than just the show. Alongside the performance, there's a drop-in puppet-making workshop for families to get stuck into. The younger children colour and decorate their own stick puppets, while the older ones fold their own unicorns to take home, so everyone leaves with something they've actually made. It's a good way to stretch the visit into a full afternoon rather than just a single show.

On the practical side, the show is in the theatre on level 3, and the audience sits on mats at the front. Seats are first-come, first-served, so if you've got a particular spot in mind, it's worth getting there a bit early. The whole thing runs on Saturday 17 October, with the puppet-making workshop available alongside it.
