Halloween-themed edition of the museum's Hidden Spaces tour, with spooky paintings and tales of ghostly sightings behind the scenes.
Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery is running a Spooky Spaces Tour on Saturday 31 October, a Halloween edition of their usual Hidden Spaces tour. If you've never done it, the Hidden Spaces format is pretty straightforward: it takes you behind the scenes to see paintings and parts of the collection that aren't on public display. This time, the focus shifts to the spookiest works in the stores, paired with tales of ghostly sightings.
It's a bit of a different way to see the museum. Most of us just walk through the galleries and see what's on the walls, but this puts you in the areas you'd normally never get into. The Halloween theme means the tour is built around the more unsettling side of the collection—the paintings that don't quite fit the main rooms and the stories that have clung to the building over the years. It's as much about the museum's own ghosts as it is about the art.

Because it's a behind-the-scenes tour, you'll see things that aren't out on the floor, so it's worth it even if you've spent plenty of time in the galleries already. It's a one-off for Halloween, and it runs on Saturday 31 October at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.
