Halloween murder mystery gallery tour in which Tat Vision, the papier-mâché pop art of William Douglas, guides visitors through the museum's collections.
Tat Vision is taking over the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery on Saturday 31 October for the Murder Mystery Museum Gallery Tour, a Halloween special that's less of a quiet stroll and more of a chaotic night out. The whole thing is built around an eccentric and deeply unreliable tour guide who leads you through the museum's galleries, though you'll probably want to take everything they say with a pinch of salt. As you move through the collections, they'll spin a series of strange tales, suspicious historical accounts, and increasingly bizarre revelations that blur the line between fact and fiction, until the tour unravels into a full-blown murder mystery complete with peculiar characters, hidden clues, and unexplained events.
Behind the name is William Douglas, a Birmingham-based pop artist who graduated from Birmingham City University with a BA in Fine Art in 2012. He works in papier-mâché, and his pieces tend to parody pop culture — he's done a tribute to the 'Four Lads In Jeans' meme and a sculpture of Steve Jobs' head on a spike. His work has appeared at the International Day of Birmingham and on Britain's Got Talent, and he's as much a performer as he is an artist, which explains why this is a guided tour rather than just a static show. The Murder Mystery Museum Gallery Tour is a collaboration between the museum and Tat Vision, so it's Douglas's brand of pop-culture parody meeting the museum's galleries for one night.
