After-dark Halloween walking tour through Birmingham's dark history, following the footsteps of murderers, ghosts and executioners, for over-17s only.
Birmingham Gallows & Ghosts is back for its fifth year, with a Halloween walking tour starting at Snow Hill Station on Thursday 29 October. It's an after-dark, hour-and-a-half stroll through the city's dark history, led by a local expert guide who takes you along a route that follows in the footsteps of murderers, ghosts and executioners.
The stories they pull from aren't all from the distant past, either. Some go back centuries, some only decades, and some are still being written in Birmingham today. Among the highlights are the infamous gangs that once ruled the city, the ghosts of Henry Skinner and Joseph Chamberlain, and the only public execution ever held in Birmingham. You'll also pass St Philip's Graveyard and hear about the Town Hall riots, so the walk covers a fair bit of ground across the city's grimmer side.
It's a strictly over-17s experience, which makes sense given the subject matter. If you're looking for a Halloween plan that's more about local history than jump-scares, this is a good shout. The tour runs from 29 October through to 1 November, with different dates and times across those few days, so you can pick the one that fits your schedule best.
