Spooky Cinema screening of 'Blade Runner Final Cut' under the stars in Thinktank's 360-degree planetarium dome.
Blade Runner Final Cut is screening at Thinktank on Friday 30 October, part of their Spooky Cinema series. It's the definitive version of the film, the one Ridley Scott finally got to put his own stamp on, and it's being shown in the museum's 4K Planetarium.
That's the bit that makes this a bit different from your usual cinema trip. The Spooky Cinema screenings are set up as cinema under the stars inside the museum's 360 dome, so you're watching it projected around you rather than on a flat screen. If you've seen Blade Runner a few times before, seeing it in a dome like that should give it a whole new feel.
For context, Thinktank is the Birmingham Science Museum over at Millennium Point in the city centre. It's an award-winning spot with more than 200 hands-on exhibits spread across four floors, a 4K Planetarium, a child-sized mini city called MiniBrum, and an interactive outdoor Science Garden, alongside displays about Birmingham's industrial past. The cinema screenings happen inside that same planetarium dome, which is where the 360-degree projection comes from.
