Family-friendly retro gaming session with free-play access to more than 80 consoles and games from six decades of gaming history.
Gamesworld is back at Thinktank in the Birmingham Science Museum over the next couple of weekends, with sessions on Saturday 24 October, Sunday 25 October, Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November. Each day there are two slots, one at 1:30pm and another at 3:00pm, so you can pick the one that fits your day best.
It's a family-friendly exhibition that takes you through six decades of gaming history. The room is laid out in themed zones with more than 80 consoles and more than 80 games, following iconic franchises from the 1980s right up to today. There's also a video game timeline that traces the evolution of gaming from the early days to the present, which gives you a bit of a map of how we got here.
Once you're in, you get free-play access to the consoles and computers, the driving games and the upright arcade machines. It's not a 'look but don't touch' kind of thing, so you can actually sit down and play through the titles rather than just reading about them. If you're taking kids, anyone 16 and under needs to be accompanied by a paying adult.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Birmingham and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

It costs £3.50 per person on top of the admission price, and £3 for Members. Pre-booking is advised, so it's worth sorting your slot before you head down. With sessions running across four days, you've got a fair few options to choose from.
