Cinema under the stars screening of 'Alien' (1979) in the Thinktank Planetarium dome, with pre-booking essential.
Thinktank is screening Alien on Saturday 31 October, as part of their Spooky Cinema series. It's the 1979 sci-fi thriller where a spaceship crew is hunted by a deadly extraterrestrial in deep space, and the whole thing is being shown in the Thinktank Planetarium at Millennium Point.
That's the bit that makes it more than just a cinema trip. The Planetarium is a 360° dome, and for the night it's being turned into the cold, silent void of space, with shadows and unknown horrors drifting just beyond the stars. It's a pretty atmospheric way to watch a film that's all about being trapped in the dark with something you can't see coming, so it fits the bill. The film itself is rated 15, and it's a cinema-style screening, so you're there for the movie rather than a party around it.

Doors open at 7pm, and the film begins promptly at 7:30pm, so it's worth getting in a bit early to find your seat. Tickets are £12, or £9 if you're a Birmingham Museums Trust member. Pre-booking is essential as places are limited, and since it's Halloween night, it's the kind of thing that'll fill up well in advance.
