Screening of Alejandro G. Iñárritu's satirical eco black comedy 'Digger', with Tom Cruise, Riz Ahmed and John Goodman.
Digger is showing at MAC Birmingham on Tuesday 27 October at 6:45pm and Wednesday 28 October at 3:00pm. It's the latest from Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who directed and co-wrote it, and it's a satirical eco black comedy with Tom Cruise in the lead. Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, a wealthy Southern oil tycoon whose company's Greenland drilling dislodges a glacier; he declares himself the only man who can save humanity and sets off on a frantic mission to prove it before the disaster he unleashed destroys everything.
About thirty minutes in, there's a Brechtian reveal: the film is actually a rehearsal for a revival of a play called Fossil Fools. The supporting cast fits right into that frame: Sandra Hüller plays Digger's half-sister, Jesse Plemons is the play's producer, and Riz Ahmed plays Ganesh, the scientific advisor. John Goodman takes on the role of the US President.

The film's own notes describe it as an epic stylised comedy that blends Dr Strangelove with Birdman, and early reviews have been divisive, though a Best Actor nomination for Cruise is considered a guarantee. Tickets start from £11.95, with the first screening on Tuesday evening and a matinee on Wednesday afternoon.
