A day of activities marking the International Day of LGBTQIA+ People in STEM, with an interactive science show, gallery conversations and story time.
Pride in STEM Day comes to Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum, on Saturday 14 November, from 10:00. It marks the International Day of LGBTQIA+ People in STEM, and it's part of the museum's autumn and winter programme. The day puts a spotlight on LGBTQIA+ people who've always been part of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, celebrating the innovators, thinkers and trailblazers across the spectrum who are transforming STEM.
There's a few different things to get stuck into. The main show is Fab-lab-ulous!, an interactive science show presented by science communicator Sarah Cosgriff (she/they). It's built around the stories of LGBTQIA+ scientists and full of colourful demonstrations. Across the galleries, you'll find 'Skills Spotlight' activities and conversations, and over in the Den there's story time, reading Along Came a Different by Tom McLaughlin. It's all designed for all ages, so it works as a family day out as much as a solo visit.
Beyond the show, the day is about meeting people passionate about STEM and heritage across the galleries. The whole thing is built for all ages, with the interactive show as the centrepiece and the other activities scattered around the museum. If you're heading in, you can drift between the show, the gallery conversations and the story time at your own pace.
