Live screening of NT Live's revival of Clifford Odets' play 'Golden Boy', directed by Sam Yates and filmed at the Almeida Theatre.
MAC Birmingham is screening Golden Boy on Thursday 5 November, as part of the NT Live season. It's a revival of Clifford Odets' American classic, set in 1930s New York at the height of the Depression. The story follows Joe Bonaparte, a gifted young violinist who gets lured into the brutal world of professional boxing.
The production was directed by Olivier Award winner Sam Yates and filmed live at the Almeida Theatre, with a live string quartet playing along. The film was released in 2006 and runs for three hours, so it's a proper evening's commitment rather than a quick trip to the cinema. If you're not around on the 5th, there's a second screening on Wednesday 25 November, and that one includes descriptive subtitles.

Tickets start from £14.95, and both screenings start at 7:00pm. If you're planning to go, keep in mind the three-hour runtime, and if you need the descriptive subtitles, the 25th is your date.
