Screening of the 1947 classic 'Miracle on 34th Street' paired with a tasting of five wines, movie trivia and theatrics from The Wine Events Company.
The Crescent Theatre is showing the 1947 classic Miracle on 34th Street on Sunday 20 December, and it's not just a screening. It's part of The Wine Events Company's 'Movies with Wine' experience, which pairs the film with a tasting of five wines, movie trivia and a bit of theatrics. If you've seen the movie a dozen times, the wine and the trivia give you a reason to sit through it again.
The company runs these sessions across the West Midlands — Birmingham, Solihull, Chipping Norton and Lichfield — so this is one of several they've got going on around the region. The hosts are a bit of a mixed bag: Trey Killwell III, who describes himself as a Santa Carla resident and vampire hunter, alongside wine geeks Tony Elvin and Tony Loomis. Between the vampire hunter and the wine buffs, the trivia and the theatrics should keep things from feeling like a standard cinema trip.
As for the wine, they cite Galileo Galilei's 'Wine is sunlight, held together by water' as an inspiration, which gives you a sense of how they approach the tasting. You get five wines to work through while the movie plays, so you're sipping as you watch rather than just having a glass at the start.
