Ballet of Lights brings its touring Cinderella to The Crescent Theatre, with five or six dancers in light-woven costumes set to classical music, for all ages five and up.
Ballet of Lights bring their version of Cinderella to The Crescent Theatre on Friday 6 November, part of the company's regular tour of mid-size UK venues. It's the production they're best known for, and it's a fair way to see how they do things: they specialise in theatrical shows that blend ballet with light shows and music, and this is the one that puts that approach front and centre.
On stage, five or six dancers perform original choreography in costumes woven with lights that trace every movement, so the light follows the dance rather than just sitting in the background. It's a way of retelling the fairytale through colour and light as much as through the steps themselves. The whole thing runs for around four hours, and it's set to classical music, with Rossini's William Tell Overture, Debussy's Clair de lune, Saint-Saëns' Danse macabre and Tchaikovsky's Waltz from Serenade in C Major all playing their part across the evening. It's staged for all audiences aged five and up, so it's one you can take the whole family to.

There's a bit of local context to it, too. The production arrives in a city with a deep connection to ballet, rooted in the legacy of the Birmingham Royal Ballet, so it's a familiar territory for a show like this. The Crescent Theatre is the venue, and the performance starts at 8:00 PM. Tickets are from £26.88, down from £33.28, which is about 19% off.
