After-dark light trail with dazzling displays, interactive installations and soundscapes through the historic Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
Luminate comes to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens on 28 November 2026, turning the Grade II* listed landscape into a colourful after-dark world of light. It's a light trail that runs for nearly a mile and takes around 60 to 90 minutes to walk, with tunnels of light, mirror balls, waterfall effects, projection mapping and dynamic laser effects lining the way. Friendly stewards guide you through the whole thing, and there's festive food and drink available along the route. The organisers describe it as a timeless experience for young and old alike, and it's already welcomed more than one million visitors nationwide.
The gardens are at Westbourne Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham B15 3TR. The trail runs from 28 November 2026 to 2 January 2027, with slots from 4:30pm to 8pm. On Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, the last entry is 8pm and the trail closes at 9pm. Tickets must be pre-booked online in advance, with limited numbers per timeslot and no outside alcohol allowed. The site is wheelchair accessible, with disabled toilets and a limited number of wheelchairs and scooters available to hire.
