Screening by TV archivists Kaleidoscope of lost programmes they have found and restored, with a Q&A from colour restoration expert Jon Coley.
Kaleidoscope are taking over the cinema at MAC on Saturday 7 November, as part of the Square Eyes TV Festival. If you're not familiar, Kaleidoscope are television archivists who spend their time tracking down and restoring lost TV rarities, and they bring their latest finds to Square Eyes, an annual television festival held in Birmingham across the MAC and the Mockingbird Cinema.
The day's programme is led by Chris Perry and focuses on recently recovered lost programmes. There's a lost edition of Opportunity Knocks from 1976, and Timeslip - The Time Of The Ice Box (1970), which has been restored from monochrome to full colour. You'll also see the partial Ulster TV play Boatman Do Not Tarry (1968), and the untransmitted pilot The Spooks of Bottle Bay (1993), introduced by its creator Ian Allen with the puppets on display. To round it off, they're showing an extended version of Dad's Army - Knights of Madness (1977), recently found and reconstructed by Kaleidoscope.
It's not just screenings, either. Colour restoration expert Jon Coley will be there for a Q&A, and TV historian Simon Winters presents Simon Winters' Wonderland. Between the restored clips, the creator introduction, and the talk, it's a full day of television history being dug out of the archives and put back on screen.
