Comedy improv workshop led by Chris Mead, based on his teaching that improvisation is about responding to your scene partner, part of the Birmingham Improv Festival.
Chris Mead is running an improv workshop at MAC Birmingham on Thursday 5 November, a three-hour session that forms part of the Birmingham Improv Festival 2026. The whole thing is built around a piece of advice Mead got from one of his first teachers: 'get into trouble and fall in love' when you go onstage. He takes that phrase and works the session around the idea that at the heart of improvisation is simply being in response to your scene partner.
Mead is a well-known name in UK improv, working as a performer, director and teacher. He's a senior teacher at Hoopla, London's largest improv school, and he runs The Pretend Company, which teaches theatrical improv and stagecraft to improvisers and actors. He's one of Europe's most in-demand practitioners, having visited festivals in more than 30 countries, and he's known for thoughtful teaching, a joyful stage presence and a commitment to pushing the art form forward.
