Three-day drop-in museum takeover with activities, music and crafts on the stories of South Asian contributions in the World Wars.
Forgotten India at 80 takes over the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October, a three-day drop-in that runs across the whole weekend. It's a museum takeover rather than a single show, so you can pop in whenever suits you over the three days.
The focus is on the stories of South Asian contributions during the World Wars. It's a subject that doesn't always get the space it deserves in the usual history books, and that's exactly what this is for. Over the course of the weekend, the museum fills with activities, music and crafts, all built around those stories. It's not just something to look at from a distance; the music and the making are part of the thing, so you'll hear as much as you see.
Because it's a drop-in, there's no single time to be there. You can wander in on the Friday, come back on the Saturday, or save it for the Sunday. If you're bringing the kids, the crafts side of things makes it easy to keep them occupied while you work through the stories. The music runs alongside, so the whole place will have a soundtrack to it rather than being a quiet gallery experience.
