Relaxed screening of the 1988 animated film 'The Brave Little Toaster' at MAC Birmingham, part of the Square Eyes TV Festival.
The Brave Little Toaster is coming to MAC Birmingham on Sunday 8 November, as part of the cinema's annual Square Eyes TV Festival. It's a double-bill of a morning: a drop-in workshop from 10am, followed by a relaxed screening of the film from 11am.
The film itself is the 1988 animated feature based on Thomas M. Disch's novella. It follows five household appliances — a toaster, a lamp, an electric blanket, a tube radio and a vacuum cleaner — who set out to find their owner. Jerry Rees directed it, and it runs an hour and 41 minutes. It was originally planned for a cinema release but ended up premiering on The Disney Channel in February 1988, so seeing it on a big screen is a bit of a departure from how it first found its audience.
The screening sits within Square Eyes, which MAC presents in partnership with Flatpack. The festival runs from Friday 6 to Sunday 15 November across Midlands Arts Centre and Mockingbird Cinema, and the programme mixes archive rarities, classic series and recent favourites. This particular session is built around The Brave Little Toaster, so you've got the workshop to get into the world before the film starts.
