Screening of Elliot Tuttle's thriller 'Blue Film', about a sex worker who meets an anonymous client, with accessible and free companion tickets.
Blue Film screens at MAC Birmingham on Thursday 29 October, starting at 8:00pm. It's a provocative two-hander from writer and director Elliot Tuttle, who made his feature debut with the film.
The story follows Aaron Eagle, a sex worker played by newcomer Kieron Moore, who agrees to visit the home of an anonymous client offering him $50,000 for an overnight stay. The man he meets, clad in a balaclava and played by Reed Birney, has other plans: he subjects Aaron to an extensive video interview and reveals he knows far more about him than he could have anticipated. From there, the film works its way into an examination of desire, power dynamics, trauma and abuse.
It's a small cast—just the two of them—so the whole thing rests on the tension between Moore and Birney. The balaclava adds a layer of anonymity that keeps the balance of power shifting throughout the night, and the video interview format means much of the drama comes from what's said and what's left out. If you're into character-driven pieces that lean into the uncomfortable, this is exactly that kind of thing.
