Self-guided audio walk through 15 of Birmingham's landmarks, narrating the city's transformation over the past century.
The Electric is the starting point for the Birmingham Audio Tour, a self-guided audio walk that threads the city's art, icons and urban legends into a reflection on how Birmingham has changed over the last century. It's run by AudaTours, and the whole thing is handled through an app: narrated stories play automatically as you approach each landmark, and once you've downloaded it, the tour works fully offline.
The walk sets out from a city whose skyline, a century ago, was shattered by ambition and uprising and rebuilt in defiance and celebration, and the route follows the hidden drama behind that rebuilt skyline. It covers around 3.8km (2.4 miles) across 15 stops, including The Electric, Victoria Square, Birmingham Town Hall, the Council House, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Chamberlain Square, Alpha Tower, BBC Birmingham, Centenary Square and Ikon Gallery. It takes about an hour and a half at your own pace, and it doesn't include entry to any building or site.

One of the easiest things about it is that there's no fixed date or start time. You pick your own date at checkout and the code never expires, so you can set off whenever suits you. It's £4.99, and since it's self-guided, you can take it as slowly as you like, stopping to look around at the landmarks as the stories unfold.
