Screening of the film 'Minotaur' by Andrey Zvyagintsev as part of the 70th BFI London Film Festival.
Minotaur is screening at MAC Birmingham on Saturday 17 October, as part of the 70th BFI London Film Festival. It's the latest from Andrey Zvyagintsev, the Russian director known for Leviathan and Loveless, and this is one of the few chances to catch it on the big screen while the festival is running.
If you're not familiar with Zvyagintsev, he's a filmmaker who tends to look at the friction between the individual and the systems around them—state, family, or society—and he does it with a very particular, stark visual style. Minotaur is his newest feature, and it's being shown here as part of the BFI London Film Festival's 70th edition, which runs across several venues. The MAC is one of the spots where the festival's programme reaches outside of central London, so you don't have to head into the capital to see it.
It's a single screening, not a run, so it's a one-night thing rather than something you can put off until next week. The session starts at 7:30pm at MAC Birmingham in Edgbaston, which puts it in a good spot for a Saturday evening—late enough that you've had your day, but early enough that you're not out until the early hours. If you've followed Zvyagintsev's work before, this is the one to see; if you're coming to him for the first time, it's a solid place to start.
