Folk concert weaving original compositions and traditional music by Belinda O'Hooley and Jackie Oates, all ages welcome.
Belinda O’Hooley and Jackie Oates are playing the Kitchen Garden Cafe in Kings Heath on Thursday 11 March 2027. They're long-time friends who've shared plenty of stages and studios over the years, and this is a proper collaboration between the two of them rather than a double bill.
Jackie Oates is a mainstay of English traditional music, hailing from Wallingford. She's a two-time BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winner and five-time nominee, and she works as a fiddler, composer and multi-instrumentalist. Her 2018 album The Joy Of Living was described as "utterly gorgeous" by The Guardian. Belinda O’Hooley is an acclaimed pianist, singer and composer who draws on her Irish roots in County Sligo; she's half of the duo O'Hooley & Tidow and, with Heidi Talbot, wrote the theme to the television series Gentleman Jack.
The evening weaves original compositions with traditional folk music and song, and they've described the set as promising humour, reflection and connection. It's an all-ages show, so you can bring the kids along if that's your thing.
